Loan Shark
Title: Loan Shark
Genre: Drama
Shooting format: Digital Video
Advisory: Explicit language and strong violence - definitely NOT for the weak-kneed!
Length: 90 minutes
Jay Robert Jennings' DV directorial debut 'Loan Shark' is the very first DV gangster film who's 'in-your-face-realism' will blow you away! Mostly shot 'guerilla-style' on the streets of Hollywood, it is an exciting and terrifying roller coaster 'ride-of-a-movie' whose intense, subject matter has never been filmed before...until now.
'Loan Shark' delves into the seedy, out-of-control world of Teddy Greene, a Hollywood loan shark whose addiction to 'roughing up' his clients, regardless of consequences, is a stunning and revealing examination of loneliness, violence and sheer desperation.
The film moves at a 'machine gun's pace', utilizing a claustrophobic, hand-held camera style, while displaying a clever use of close-ups and unusual jump-cuts. A shockingly original soundtrack accompanies the suspense, capturing your attention and never letting go.
'Loan Shark's' black and white photography, with gray skies and distorted angles, is a refreshing homage to the 60's French New Wave, as well as to past 70's films such as 'Mean Streets' and 'Taxi Driver'.
No kidding - this flick makes 'Bad Lieutenant' look like 'Snow White'!
